We have discussed in part 1 of mini Twitter series on how to set up your account and how to link your blogs RSS feeds to twitter, now for today we going look further into Twitter and how to get followers and follow others.
How to follow other twitters
Adding a person so you are able to follow them is fairly simple, when you reach there twitter account page e.g. Yeepage Twitter you will find a button just below my name which reads follow, so simply click follow.
Now you will find that you have one new following added.
How to get people to follow you on twitter
One of the most important things in twitter has to be how to get people to follow your Twitters, so as you have just set up your account, you maybe have none or maybe a few followers only. So right now any updates you send out are basically going to the public timeline, so it’s time to get some followers.
If you are have created your account you can invite your friends, by telling them about twitter and encourage them to sign up.
Another way is to start following someone, when you add them an email notification would be sent to them which is the default setting, therefore most twitter’s will then look up your profile and if interesting they will possibly link back ( follow) you. Normally if someone adds me to their twitter account I will look and follow them back.
By using search function you can find people of the same niche as yours as this will help you gain more twitters, as you speak a common topics. For me I would look under blogging tips and money making.
Some good sites to follow
We can use Twitter as a sort of RSS feed site and I have subscribed to several types of sites:
First is the bloggers
Problogger , Johntp , liewcf , Dosh Dosh
Second is the Information/ News sites
SkyNews and BBC News for latest updates
BBC Sport for latest updates on sport.
BBC Entertainment for latest Gossip.
So we can use twitter to monitor the world form a single location.
In the last part of my mini series on Twitter we will discuss tweaking and how we can get a good back link and who’s in the hall of fame in Twitter?
Why not add me to your twitter account so you can keep up with my next twitter post by clicking on Yeepage Twitters.

Simon, I’m going to wait until you post the final part of your mini-series and then I’ll link to all three parts from my blog.
I wish you a great New Year!
I use twitter as a way of “broadcasting”. In other words, people can see it wherever I have it plugged in, like on my blog and on my facebook. But then I had the problem of not knowing what my followers were broadcasting.
I don’t want it to go to my phone because I am charged for each sms. So I am using an online messenger, but I don’t like this method either. The reason is because it’s nearly always showing a new twitter and it’s distracting. So it’s off more than on. The only other option I can see is to read them at the twitter website.
I noticed some people use it more of an instant messenger then a broadcaster. I thought it was just supposed to let people know what you’re doing, which means a broadcast or announcement. So I’m confused what it’s function is because I didn’t think it was supposed to be interactive, but like you said, a mini RSS.
So I’m wondering, which method do you recommend using to keep up with those you follow? How should it be used: as a broadcast, as an IM, or another method? Or all of those?
Sorry for the very long reply, I’ve been curious about this for a long time. I’m looking forward to your next post in this series.
Twitter has many functions as you mentioned but I prefer to use as a mini RSS feed. I don’t use as a IM as i am not always online so unable to hold conversations with others, unlike others who can chat all day.
But thats the good thing about twitter is it’s ability to be used as many different platforms like IM, broadcasting, RSS feeds etc.
I went to the twitter site and I just noticed the RSS button. How did I miss this before?? This solves everything I mentioned above because I can see what my friends are talking about right in my RSS feeder.
I am not being arrogant but I hate following people who have just rss feed updates, there is no point.
Depends what you are looking for from Twitter i guess… But can see your point of view
