I just joined StumbleUpon a few months ago but have largely ignored it until now After reading so many bloggers gaining huge amounts of traffic from StumbleUpon, I thought its about time I looked closely into it.

What exactly is StumbleUpon?

StumbleUpon is a slighty different from the social bookmarking websites like Digg and Del.icio.us. However, all three of these websites work well to add massive amounts of traffic to your site. StumbleUpon has now over 3.5 million stumblers what means get traffic potential for webmasters for more details on what is stumble etc can be found at their about page on there site.

So now, let’s see how we could get more traffic from StumbleUpon.

Be Social

Do what everyone else is doing, just add more friends and rate more websites. Basically it’s the same as Digg, the more sites you rate the bigger quantity of stumblers who will come across your websites. With more friends, any newly added pages will be shown to them and hence increase your readership

Content is the king

Heard it a thousand times but we can’t run from it, content on our blog will bring traffic, only good quality sites will maintain stable traffic over the long run. So to increase and keep your stumblers you need to write good content, attractive titles, add more tags, etc.

stumbleXchange

StumbleXchange can be used to increase your exposure and gain new friends within StumbleUpon, so I will spend a few minutes a day to add new friends and vote for their site.

In conclusion it can be seen that StumbleUpon will give you increased exposure, and by using these three simple tips you can increase your traffic, but remember to keep the quality of your content.

I tried to figure out how to socialize with stumble upon. I kind of got lost in the maze so to speak. Since you recommend it I’ll try it again.

I’ve been avoiding it for no good reason. Time to go there and get active. Sometimes it’s overwhelming to do all the little things needed to increase traffic. It sure can keep you busy. Thanks.

The first time I used StumbleUpon my traffic went from from 40 to 8000 in a day. Since then, I have continued to average about 1000. I think it’s a great site.

I’m still not etirely convinced about SU. Pehaps a lot of people use it as a link exchange, and I’ve seen a big spike in traffic. BUT, traffic for the sake of it means nothing at all, if all people are going to do is give a site the thumbs up before even waiting for the page to load, simply because you’ve “stumbled” them.

Other words, I’d prefer to write articles which only a handful of people enjoy reading enought to comment on, to a hundred “empty Stumbles”. Ok so not are all “empty” but my meaning is clear enough.

Wow a traffic boost of 40 to 8000.. I’ve always read that SU brings sustained traffic for even your older posts .. But this sort of a boost ? Harris’s blog got his the number of visits he would get over 6 months on a single day .. I need to start working on SU very soon .. That will be the next priority after PR i suppose ..
