Some people don’t see blogging like our real life, but it’s very much the same if we look at it more closely. Let’s look at the real world, we all have our dreams in life and to reach them we all do one thing in common we PLAN. To get to these dreams we set ourselves targets or GOALS. These goals can come in various forms, we can set ourselves many short term or immediate goals which we use to gauge our final objective.

So if we look at our blogs are they much different?

One reason why many blogs or bloggers fail is for the lack of a PLAN and a GOAL, so the typical blogger after several months of blogging gets disillusioned and ends up quitting their blog, but with some realistic goals and an immediate plan they might still be blogging today.

Planning

As mentioned planning is very important and the key to running a good blog is planning, we can achieve much more with a basic plan. Here are some reasons for good planning:

1. With planning your blog will have more flow, and your ability to write posts ahead of yourself will be easy.

2. It allows you to have both short and long term goals

3. It allows you to prioritize your blogging time and you find more tasks done for less time, hence improve your time management.

4. Individual task are done faster

Setting goals

Can’t stress the importance of setting goals enough and it give us something to work towards and keep you on the specific path else you will quickly lose our direction. Without any immediate milestone to reach you will quickly get disheartened when reaching for your final goal. So to reach the end of any journey takes many steps, so record and measure them along the way so you know where you are on your path.

Consider these when you set your goals:

1. Separate the goals you set into short term and long term goals.

2. Understand why you set your goals

3. Tell your goals to all and let your readers know, as this will motivate you to work harder for fear of failure. I every month will summarize my success and failures and set new goals for the next one month.

4. Regularly revisit your goals and monitor them.

5. Set your goal high enough to be worth your effort but not to far away that you will never reach them.

Hope with planning and goal setting you can achieve a better and more pleasurable experience, now sit down for 15 minutes and look at your plan and the goals you have set yourself.

Tell me your goals for this month and long term?

Planning is indeed an essential part of blogging, more so when we are not doing it full-time, and have to share this online passion with the many activities that we need to take care of in our lives.

My goal for December is to rediscover my blogging mojo, because it had disappeared when I needed it most!

My long term goal is to be able to make a difference to someone’s life through my blog. Be it giving sound advice through my articles, helping fellow bloggers out or simply just bringing a smile to someone.

It’s certainly hard to keep a blog up and running, if there is no actual goal thought out… I love this post because to the right reader, it could help them get back on course. My immediate goals? Breathe ‘new’ life back into my personal site adding a bit of heart and business. :)

Plan, plan and plan again. My current plans are to post 100 entries in the first 100 days of my bilingual blog. This can only happen with detailed and orchestrated planning.

With a new year around the corner, now is a good time to re-examine my long term goals for the blog.

Nice post. I like having all this motivational advice in one entry. :)
