Insight to what goes on in a bloggers mind (well in mine anyhow)

If you're new here, you may want to browse my articles and if you like them please subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Guess this will be my a nature close to my two posts on addiction and today will give you a better idea of what’s goes on in a bloggers mind.  You all know i am addicted to blogging and that I am reformed addict for looking into blog statistics, so today I let you into my brain on what goes on when I blog. Here a few thoughts that I prompt myself when I blog.

To publish or not to publish?

That is the question… right up to the last minute I will wonder whether I should publish the article or change it completely or maybe even keep it for a later date, so I am learning now to focus and complete the article and publish by the same time everyday.

But at times I will have the odd draft floating in the control panel waiting to be modified or published at a later date.

How often should I publish an article?

There is a fine line between having too many posts and not enough, if you post 3 or more articles a day most people will get tired and maybe unsubscribe to your blog or they can’t visit daily so they get left behind in the topic or story.

But at the same time to infrequent posting of articles and the readers will only visit infrequently too and this will lead to a poor interaction between you and the readers.

Personally I favor one article per day as it’s the balance between keeping your blog looking fresh and not posting too often so people will not lose the flow.  Which ever your frequency you choice educate your readers so they know when to check for your next article rather than checking and finding no updates.

Interaction with Commentators

This is something I feel I should do, as you have spent 10 minutes of your day to write your kind thoughts its only right that I reply, but sometimes with work, diving or other commitments, I don’t have the time to reply every comment. But I do my best to reply and even visit the reader’s blog too.

MyBlogLog Widgets

You can see the widget at the right hand column which shows my last 20 visitors who visited my site; it’s a great way at a quick glance to see who regularly visits and who’s new to your site.  I can use this often to keep an eye out for any big players or newbies dropping by.

Is it a good idea to show statistics?

There are many that can be shown like PageRank, Technorati, Feedburner, Alexa are some examples and all show your authority in some form.

But when is a good time to show your authority?

There is not much sense showing your PageRank widget if you have zero PageRank or having a small Technorati authority.

So when is the best time to show your authority?

I added my Technorati, Alexa and feedburner quite early maybe too early but as I had added them so I stuck with my decision but with work they have increase to respectable figures. Decided to hold back on my Pagerank as was stuck a zero for months and was only adjusted to a PR of 2 now.

Don’t over check your statistics?

We discussed this yesterday in how often you can your statistics?, I know we all love too know our statistics but try and not waste valuable time on them, work on the posts and other activities beyond blogging.

If you look at your statistics at regular intervals say two or three days and not all day then you can see the overall trend. Always look with a objective too don’t look without knowing what you want out of them. As we blog for the long run our statistics should not more drastically but steady in the right direction but be prepared for the odd dip too.

Conclusion

From the list of topics mentioned you can see there a lot of thought that goes into blogging, whether you need think on a daily basic or once a month there’s lot of aspects that goes into blogging and planning is needed.

What you say is very true .. Even inspite of the number of visitors on my blog being very low ( i mean very very low ). I still sit for 10 mins everyday to check the entering page, leaving page, referral sources, browser used, map location etc. I’m kinda hooked onto it.. Once there was this long duration visitor from Australia, i was so happy someone has taken the time off to go through almost my complete site. Gave me quite a high ..

This is the kinda stuff that goes on in my mind .. Pretty weird .. I know ..
