goalI regularly like to write about my short term or immediate bench marks, but what we really need is too set a long term goal or bench mark for us to aim and work towards. In my post the most important things you can do as a blogger I define my goals into short term (i.e. summary of month post’s) and long term(Yearly) which I will intend to set today.

I have never openly set a years goal before, but today after setting my goals I will be committing to everyone and hopefully with doing this it will drive me harder as I won’t like to fail in front of my readers.

First I like to clear my blogs direction, when I first started blogging my direction was with Autosurf and HYIP, but clearly it’s not a direction that would continue long and I redirected my attention to blogging tips, as this is the area where I can help the maximum number of users.

My current and future direction of my blog will continue with Blogging tips, specializing at beginner level for Wordpress blogs, as this is where my blog has gone so far and where most my readers have benefited the most, I will not leave out immediate or advanced bloggers, and where possible will blog to help these readers too.

Other topics I will cover is Social Media sites like Stumbleupon, Twitter, Digg etc as these are great locations to build your blog’s branding and will increase your traffic and your readership and of course we need to earn some money to cover our hosting bills so I will add some money making making tips too.

Yeepage.com will become a one stop location where people can learn to build, promote and monetize their blogs. This will not happen over night but by adding daily content I will create an up to date site and have an archive for all your needs.

Blog Goals for 2008

RSS Subscribers

Currently: Varying from 137 on good posts to around 124 readers for others.

Goal: 1000 subscribers by end 2008, it sounds a lofty aim and in fact this is an ambitious target set, but with some careful planning and work this could be achieved. This will take some hard work and promoting and I will be doing a new contest over the next few weeks to get this going.

Unique Visitors

Currently: *Unique visitors per month are 6,859 for December 2007, which works out to approximate 200 per day.

Goal: To increase my unique visitors to 30,000 per month or a daily average of 1,000 per day. To achieve this we need to look into social networking, commenting on other people’s blogs and improving the quality of my content.

*based on Google Analytics

Visitors

Currently: *Based on December 2007 my visitors were 7,855, which work out to be 250 visitors per day.

Goal: To increase these visitors by five fold over the next year, and hit 38,000 per month, again this will work by building relationships with my readers and making people become regular readers.

*based on Google Analytics

Revenue

Currently: Varies from month to month, from $100 to $300.

Goal: With use of advertising, affiliate, Adsense, and other means to make money I would like to hit $1000 per month. But basically I would like to be able to justify my hours put into my blogging.

Ranking

Currently: PR of 2, Technorati: 27,000, Alexa 99,903

Goals: These are the my big three right now and I feel I can reduce these quite a lot, my goal would be PR of 4 if a little extra work a 5, Technorati below 12,000 and my Alexa to be below 45,000.

All these will go down naturally as they are related to my other goals so I wont directly aim for these but working on my other goals, I will be able to watch these fall.

Social Networking

Currently: Not fully utilizing my potential of social networking, to be honest I have touched quite a few sites so far but yet have not developed a good network within any of them.

Goal: To use social networking sites more not just for traffic, but to build my sites brand more and create more awareness of my site. As must top bloggers have some branding within one or more social networking sites.

Well that’s it for now. If I can reach these goals by the end of 2008, I will be happy blogger. So now I have committed my goals to everyone I’ve got a lot of work to do over the months, but this post will be a good reference for a years time.

Thanks for everyone who’s supported me and hope see you continue in 2008

You have set out some strong goals for yourself. It would be interesting to read about the strategies you plan on implementing to accomplish your goals.

Good that you’ve chosen to make long term goals, with long term goals you can afford to be very optimistic, and that helps cos with short term goals you tend to be very cautious sometimes overtly doubtful and so you’re stuck with linear growth alone. But with long term goals you’re looking at geometric growth, so it could work better.

And still the goals seem pretty realistic to me, considering the progress you’ve managed in the initial phase. The initial phase is always the toughest, really testing times. But once you reach a particular level you can afford to sit back and enjoy success.

      Anyways, Great going Simon.

      Cheers ..

Great goals! I would love to make my blog a higher priority but I have way too much other stuff going on. Maybe as a natural extension of working on my other goals my blog stats will increase. I just outlined mine on my blog. Check ‘em out and let me know what you think. http://www.entrepremusings.com/index.php/2008/01/01/one-entrepreneurs-2008-goals/

It’s good to set our blogging goals so that we have a direction and an objective to work towards.

In your target to increase RSS subscribers and daily unique visitors, are you planning on spending any money other than achieving the target through sheer hard work?

Recently a blog call Winning The Web spent US$1.6k in contests and blog reviews, and manage to build about 200 RSS subscribers in the process. There’s indeed some cost incurred in acquiring subscribers.

Was considering to start a contest to help my RSS feeds but not sure as of yet…

@Betshopboy: Do you think it is worth spending so much for subscribers, who might just decide to unsubscribe when the contest is finished.(regardless of the content Simon provides). The RSS subscriptions gained from a contest can never be compared to regular RSS subscriptions.

Atleast this is my POV, so incase Simon has a extra 1.6k or something to spend he should defn. choose a better way than a RSS contest.

Your goals are all realistic. I believe some of my goals are not. What do you think?

Well hope you reach your goal. i believe if you put a good plan you will get it done. Me i would like to focus on getting at least 200 unique visitor from search engine by the end of march and if achieve that 500 by the of June.

Guru: Personally, I don’t think the $1.6k is money well-spent in terms of acquiring RSS subscriber alone.

      @betshopboy, i can agree with that statement…
