Do you normally give yourself a regular check up at the doctors, that once yearly check up to ensure your cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure are normal? The answer is probably YES!!
Do you ever think we should check our blog the same way? I guess we all check our statistics daily but have you thought our blog needs regular check up to see it functions accordingly to what we intended. Here are a few simple tips to help us:
1. Delete the Unused Files, Pages, and Images
I have many images and files I have uploaded to my server but ended up never using, generally these don’t affect our blog, but deleting them helps tidy up our server this will generally help organize our blog better.
2. Check you blog for Dead Links
Most bloggers add many links within their blogs in the shape of inbound and outbound. These links would of worked when they first posted the articles, but now maybe not all are still working. Dead links normally occur with an outbound links and are caused by websites shutting down or removing pages.
Checking for dead links within your blog can be done easily with Dead-Links.com.
3. Run a Spider Simulator
This type of spider is good in that it will simulate how a search engine spider does, and will find any thing that will obstruct a future spider search the contents of your site.
Check your site for search engine spiders at Summit Media..
4. Test Load Time
Many bloggers start of with a fast site, but as time passes and they add more widgets, plugins then the blog get slower. Load time might not sound important to you but most people don’t have the patience and time to wait all day for your blog to load, which can be especially important if you are stumbled or by other social bookmark sites.

Most bloggers use a tool like Akismet to prevent comment spam. Unfortunately it’s not possible to stop all spam entering your site. Generally we see our latest posts but not all we see the older posts. These are where you will find spam comments check through your dashboard within wordpress and delete where necessary.
7. Optimize Your CSS
When you first load up the blog your CSS codes will be optimized but over time these will get messed you due to many reasons. Poorly optimized codes will result in larger files and slower load up speeds.
Two free tools that you can use are CSS Optimiser and Clean CSS.
