Just seen my updated Alexa ranking and was pleased to see that it has crept under 100,000 mark for the first time, when I started paying notice to my Alexa ranking my rank was 493,490 on 3rd Oct and has gone down to 99,903 on 26th Dec which is less than 3 months.
You may be thinking big deal and compared too some of the big bloggers it’s not low, but when I set out to blog it was one of my benchmarks I was aiming for and finally I have achieved it.
Alexa is a very important benchmark for money making online as advertisers and other sites like reviewme, sponsoredreview etc will determine the value of a link to your site.
So how can you reduce your Alexa Ranking?
Obviously the lower you get your ranking the harder it will get to lower it further, so we need to find additional tweaks and tips to assist us, Dosh Dosh as an excellent article on 20 tips you can use to improve your Alexa Ranking.
I have not tired every tip but have tested several and they have done no harm to my statistics.
The things I have done to improve my Alexa according to Dosh Dosh:
- Added the Alexa toolbar and have set my blog as the homepage
- Put up the Alexa widget on your website, mine was added from almost day one. This should only be added when you have a respectable ranking which I have done a post on.
- Write content that’s related to webmasters, it believed that webmasters are more tech savvy and will have more chance of having the Alex toolbar installed.
- Get Dugg or Stumbled, this will hugely reduce your ranking as a lot of traffic can be generated.
What’s your experience with Alexa?

I agree that it’s mostly webmasters and SEO types who have the Toolbar, so unless you are writing about things of interest to them, you won’t do well with it.
I do write about such things sometimes, so my Alexa has been up and down.. just under 90k now, has been as low as 40k for brief periods.. I don’t look at it very often.
My Technorati rank slid upward (like Alexa, you want it going down) recently too, probably because I’ve been doing more geekish tech articles.. nothing like a little geek talk to turn people off

Wow…. that’s cool Simon.
I can see that your blog is growing and expanding tremendously. Seems that your hardwork really pays off. Ok…. I will add Alexa Ranking to my blog shortly.
Just wondering if you have touched on about hosting? Meaning what are the pros and cons to self-host your blog compared to hosting with wordpress.com and blogspot directly?
I am not too sure if the rest are keen to know but I am certainly. Prob u have already talked about it in your blog.

Congrats for hitting the sub 100k mark in Alexa.
Getting below 100k is one of my blogging goals for 2008.My current ranking stands at 150k+, do you think it is respectable enough for me to post the Alexa widget on the sidebar?

betshopboy, 150k is fine. The key is too see your last few weeks progress is lower than 150k, then at least when you put up the widget people can follow your progress as your figures drop and not increase.

To increase your http://www.alexa.com/data/details/main?url=www.fortunehotels.in Alexa rank in the long run, it is recommended that one should focus on developing quality content, which attracts and maintains a large audience instead of purely focusing on artificially increasing your Alexa Rank.
